I have over 30+ years of experience in the technology industry, holding product leadership roles at Fortune 100 companies and unicorn start-ups with over a billion dollar valuation. Over the past 10 years, I've launched and developed several SaaS solutions based on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML). I managed a buy now, pay later product (similar to Affirm) and grew the revenues to over $10M. I'm most proud of creating Beacon, the industry's most advanced student suicide detection software. As a product manager, I've integrated technologies including AR, VR, data and storage networking, web 3.0, and e-commerce. I'm leveraging my product expertise and technical knowledge and applying it to Sports VisionAI to disrupt the market and revolutionize the industry.
I have 10+ years coaching youth sports including AAU basketball teams, middle school football teams, and high school basketball teams. I own and operate SoCal Hoops, a national AAU club team and co-own The Hidden GEM Sports Lab, a world class training center focused on sports skill development, athletic performance, and mental mindset. As a head coach, skills trainer, mental performance coach, and most importantly a parent, I've seen first hand how difficult and challenging it is to capture a player's most memorable video moment during a game. I've held the video camera at games, trying to capture highlights and still enjoy the game. I've failed every time, missing key moments because it requires a dedicated cameraman. I consider myself an “old school” type of coach whose number one goal is to help develop the character of every young man I coach. My success has come from my ability to get my players to out-work their opponents and my ability to help them develop a superior “basketball IQ” than those we compete against.
I truly believe that I owe much of my coaching success to my struggles. In my 18 years as a varsity coach I have NEVER recruited a single player. Besides it being “illegal” according to CIF rules, I got into the coaching profession to match wits on a fair playing field. Unfortunately today many of my coaching colleagues don’t subscribe to such a philosophy. It hurts me to say that I have “lost” numerous talented players who transferred to other schools because of “un-do influence”. The devastating part is that I have since run into many of them who whole heartedly regretted leaving as their “promises” never came into fruition. My biggest heartbreaks have not come from losing basketball games but rather losing players I cared about due to recruiting.
In retrospect having less talent over the years has actually been a blessing. It has allowed me to develop “out of the box” coaching strategies and techniques that have been extremely successful. Such circumstances have ultimately helped equip me with insight to the game of basketball that I otherwise wouldn’t have. The key to my success has been making film break down and statistical analysis top pillars of my program.
